What a Passport is: Definition, Types, and Security Features

  1. RegularPassport Non-Electronic:

  • The most common type of passport used by Indonesian citizens (WNI) for tourism, business, or family visits.
  • Available in two-page options: 24 pages and 48 pages.
  • Ordinary passports are green with the Garuda Pancasila symbol on the cover.
  • The validity period of an ordinary passport is a maximum of ten years for Indonesian citizens (WNI) over seventeen years old or married. Apart from these categories, passports are issued for a period of five years.

 


  1. Electronic Passport (e-Passport):

  • One of the options of passport used by Indonesian citizens (WNI) for tourism, business, or family visits.
  • Equipped with an electronic chip that stores the holder’s biometric data, such as fingerprints, face, and personal data. Considered safer and more difficult to counterfeit than a regular passport.
  • The electronic passport is green with the Garuda Pancasila symbol on the cover.
  • The validity period of the electronic passport is a maximum of ten years for Indonesian citizens (WNI) over seventeen years old. Apart from these categories, passports are issued for a period of five years.

 


  1. Diplomatic Passport:

  • Issued to state or government officials and diplomats.
  • Black in color with the Garuda Pancasila symbol on the cover.
  • Used for diplomatic duties.

 


  1. Official Passport (paspor dinas):

  • Issued to government employees assigned abroad for official duties.
  • Blue in color with the Garuda Pancasila symbol on the cover.
